Release 5

WindFarm Release 5 is being developed and it is expected to be available sometime in 2017. However, because of changing visualisation guidelines it has been necessary to make the new features of Release 5 available for use before its full release. These are in Release 4.2.5.3, which can be regarded as a pre-release, and are primarily targeted at the new Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) guidelines. None of the new features are available unless you are a new user or have upgraded to Release 5.

Please read the information below and download the documents to further understand what has been developed so far. If you are interested in upgrading or require more information then please contact ReSoft Ltd.

If you are not a new user or upgrading to Release 5 then do not download or install 4.2.5.3.

Map Tiling

Map Tiling is the process of dividing a map image into a number of tiles and also creating a set of images at lower resolutions. It is set on by default for Release 5 along with using single maps (similar in use to Release 4). However, multiple maps can now be used along with layering in groups that can be selectively displayed.

Please see Release5-MapTiling.pdf for more details. It is written so that it can be incorporated into the tutorials.

Height Data

There have been major changes so that the horizontal and vertical resolution of height data is centimetres. In addition negative values of height can now be used.

There is a new category of raster height data. Release5-HeightData.pdf explains the difference between raster and vector data. There is also information on the Batch Converter for height data. Both this and the File Joining program have been added to the Tools menu.

File Joiner

The File Joining program has also been available for some time. It is now listed near the bottom of the Tools menu in the Designer. Its use is self-explanatory and it is shown at the end of Release5-HeightData.pdf.

PhotoMontage

Most of the new features below are in response to SNH guidelines:

1 The toolbar has been extended to enable easier toggling of some of the display attributes

2 Ridgeline drawing in the wireframe

3 The Sun's direction can be set using date and time

4 Fog can be added to the view of the rendered turbines

5 Aviation lights can be displayed on the nacelle and tower

6 A reprojection tool to convert images from cylindrical projection to planar projection and vice versa

Please see Release5-Photomontage.pdf for more details. It is written as a tutorial using the TURH project.

Additional information on aviation lights is in AviationLights.pdf and AviationLights.xls

ZVI

The calculation is now made at millimetre height resolution. In parallel the ZVI exclusion zones have been changed so that you can specify heights to centimetres. The new features are:

1 The toolbar has been extended to enable easier toggling of some of the display attributes

2 Exclusion zone boundaries are treated as barriers

3 A local radius can be specified for each wind farm

4 Circles can be drawn at the local radius

5 Results can be displayed up to the radius from each turbine instead of the centre of a wind farm

These features are detailed in Release5-ZVI.pdf, which is written as a tutorial using the TURH project.

Radar

The calculation is now made at millimetre height resolution. In addition the radar interference zones have been changed so that you can specify heights to centimetres. The new features are:

1 The toolbar has been extended to enable easier toggling of some of the display attributes

2 Interference zone boundaries are treated as barriers

These features are detailed in Release5-Radar.pdf, which is written as a tutorial using the TURH project.

Changes from 4.2.5.1

4.2.5.2

1   fix to map exporting when banding is used

2   correction to height contour labels which were appearing as cm and not metres

3   correction to fog setting and switching on/off for aviation lights

4   correction to setting and getting the aviation lights attenuation constant

5   in the Photomontage module the vertical spacing between overlapping umbrellas can now be specified

6   the installation procedure has been improved to allow for Windows 8

4.2.5.3

1   fix to allow editing of a turbine with the hub omitted

2   complex geometry allows tower, blade, hub and nacelle to be omitted by setting the number of sections to 0

3   map tiling is now specific to a project allowing it to be more flexible

4   profiles added to the photomontage module - stores turbine settings, colours, markers, lines and borders

5   nacelle and tower aviation lights turbine lists can be different

6   multiple aviation lights can be used on a turbine along with specifying the x,y location

7   animation dialog allows larger tolerance (20%) to be used on aviation lights
